Fletcher is running free through the fields of Dog Heaven! We lost our beautiful Golden Retriever, Fletcher, to cancer a few days after Christmas. He was a very special dog with a strong will to live. He lived for Jack and Annie. He would watch over them when they were playing outside. He always knew exactly where they were.
I read Jack and Annie, Dog Heaven by Cynthia Rylant. Annie took it especially hard and still sobs at night for Fletcher. She wants to know when the angels are bringing him home.
Christmas Eve, Fletcher followed us to Grandma Jane's house even though it was very difficult for him to walk. Annie walked him home. 
Our Protector watches over Jack and Annie.
Jack assures everyone that Fletcher is running and then resting on a fluffy cloud in Heaven. We miss our Loyal Friend!

So sorry for your loss. We are thinking our black lab is getting pretty old and not sure when we're going have to go through this too.
I got teary-eyed reading your post. We loved Fletcher too! Fletcher even let Matthew lay on him too and was always so gentle. Every time we see a golden retriever, M insists that its "Fletcher".
I will have to tell you what Billy Graham says about animals and pets in Heaven.
